Ladakh Adventure Expedition and Cultural Journey.
Ladakh Adventure Expedition and Cultural Journey. Set deep in the Indian Himalayas on the western edge of the Tibetan plateau, Ladakh , or “Little Tibet” is one of the driest and highest inhabited places on Earth. It is 86, 900 km square and is between the states of Jammu and Kashmir. It is inhabited by people of Indo-Aryan and Tibetan descent. It is one of the most sparsely inhabited regions in India. A Ladakh Adventure Expedition is a journey that will inspire like no other.
The main town is Leh which has one of the highest airports in the World and is the start and finish point for most people traveling in this regions. The culture of the people is very similar to Tibetan culture. A combination of Tibetan and Indian architecture abounds and it deeply reflect the Buddhist religion which is the most widespread in the region.
From November to May each year this region is mostly cut of from the rest of the World due to the mountain passes being covered with impassable amounts of snow. Weekly flight still connect Leh with Delhi during winter but movement around Ladakh is severely restricted. However, even in these conditions one of the great treks of the World still happens each winter. The Chadar Trek is a challenging trek along the frozen River Zanskar which may due to global warming not be able to be completed in the near future.
Most Ladakh Adventure Expedition seekers visit this area in July-Sept. Our exploration visits to this area have found it to be stunning in so many ways that we feel it is calling out for a 1000 Mile Journey. No journey of 1000 Miles is a easy undertaken but this one with over thirty mountain passes at above 5000 meters may be especially demanding. The 1000 Mile Journey Team are considering a Ladakh Adventure Expedition in this region of trekking, mountain biking and rafting the mighty Zanskar river to complete the 1000 Miles or maybe just trekking and mountain biking.
The one thing we know for sure is this area is calling us back and as it is developing fast we have the drive and desire to complete a journey before the modern World reaches in to far.
